News

The big news this week is that I was on Glee last night!  Well, not me in person, but my voice and vocal percussion were featured on not one, but two tunes – the Dalton Academy Warblers performing “Glad You Came” by The Wanted, and “Stand” by Lenny Kravitz!

Here it is on the show:

…here’s a better quality version, without the crowd noise:

…and here’s the audio of “Stand”:

I also did the editing for both of those tracks (a service I would love to provide for you if you’re making an album)!

It’s a real pleasure to work on these tunes, and to get to spend time in the studio with real pros that know their stuff!  I had a few moments during the making of these tracks where I realized “wow, this is for Glee…it doesn’t get much better than this!”  So grateful for the opportunity and the experience.

In Other News

I had considered writing a little bit this week about the recently online controversy regarding favoritism at the ICCAs, but decided against it for two reasons:

1) I realized that I’m much more interested in reading other people’s opinions on the subject than I am in writing out my own.  I see a lot of different points being made that I think have merit, and pretty much all of them were touched on in the discussion that happened on my Facebook page.  If you’d like to weigh in, I’d love for you to write what you think about the issue over there.

2) At the end of the day I think the ICCAs do a great deal of good for the a cappella community.   To that end, even though the judging system is (very understandably) imperfect and merits constant evaluation, I’d prefer that that evaluation occur via discussion and not in the form of an opinionated writing here that might be construed as an attack on an organization that I have nothing but respect for.

By all means, let’s discuss!  If you’d like to join in, you can do so here!  Hope to hear what you have to say.

On a related note, congratulations to all the groups who have advances to the semi-finals of the competition!  My Twitter has been blowing up with reports of great events, and my bracket is still doing well, so I’m pretty happy!
